On 16 October 2023, founding partner Yas Banifatemi delivered the keynote speech for the 10th anniversary of the CAM-CCBC – Centro de Arbitragem e Mediação Congress, as part of the São Paulo Arbitration Week.

The keynote speech focused on the application of the principle of competence-competence in Brazil and whether that principle is undermined, in effect, by the concept of conflito de competência. It emphasized that, for international arbitration to continue to thrive in Brazil, Brazilian courts must not only recognize, but give effect, to its fullest extent, to the principle of competence-competence, in both its positive and negative effects.

The speech was delivered in tribute to Emmanuel Gaillard, referencing in particular his historic keynotes in Salvador de Bahia (2006) and Florianopolis (2016).
