On 15 April 2022, Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes sponsored a large-scale tribute to Professor Emmanuel Gaillard organized by five learned societies (sociétés savantes) – the Comité français de l’arbitrage, the Comité français de droit international privé, the International Arbitration Institute, the International Law Association (French Branch), and the Société de législation comparée – of which he had been an active member, on whose governing board he had served or which he had founded.
Entitled “Theory in Action,” the event, which was divided into five main panels – “Emmanuel Gaillard – Outside the Norm,” “The Arbitral Legal Order,” “Emmanuel Gaillard’s Thinking: Sources and Influences,” “The Influence of Emmanuel Gaillard’s Thinking on International Commercial Arbitration,” and “The Influence of Emmanuel Gaillard’s Thinking on Investment Arbitration” – sought to pay tribute to Professor Gaillard’s manifold contributions to the world of law as well as the depth of his thinking, in arbitration law and beyond. The testimonials, analyses and discussions that were shared during the event highlighted Professor Gaillard’s ability to combine theory and practice.
The tribute by learned societies to Professor Gaillard took place at an academic and research institute, the Institut Catholique de Paris.
The programme of the event is available in English or in French.
