Pilar Álvarez

Pilar Álvarez is an associate at Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes.

Her practice includes commercial and investment arbitrations under the ICC, ICDR, UNCITRAL and ICSID Rules, with particular focus on arbitrations involving parties from Latin America.

Pilar’s previous experience includes working as Legal Counsel to the Deputy Secretary to the Uruguayan Presidency (Prosecretaría de la Presidencia de la República), where she advised the Uruguayan Government in matters related to the country’s defense in international investment arbitrations and arbitration-related proceedings before national courts, and represented the State before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Pilar also was an associate in the International Arbitration department of Shearman & Sterling LLP in Paris and in the Corporate and Banking department of Guyer & Regules in Montevideo.

Pilar serves as Secretary to a Tribunal constituted under the aegis of the ICC.
